CFMTA Canada Music Week® E-FESTIVAL FAQs
Q) Can anyone enter this E-Festival?
A) Anyone who is taking lessons with a music teacher who has a current membership in good standing with one of the Provincial Registered Music Teachers’ Associations across Canada can enter this E-Festival.
Q) Is there an age limit on entrants in this E-Festival?
A) In past E-Festivals, we have had students from 5 to 75 enter.
Q) I am a voice student and due to the social distancing measures being taken, I am unable to meet with my accompanist to record the performance. Am I still able to participate?
A) We understand the challenges social distancing is creating for performing opportunities. We would be happy to accept entries that use recorded accompaniment for this special E-Festival event. We will accept an entry that uses a recorded accompaniment sent to you by your teacher or accompanist, use an accompaniment recording from once of the accompaniment websites. We also will accept acapella performances or self-accompanied performances.
Q) I am an instrumentalist (string/woodwind/brass) student and due to the social distancing measures being taken, I am unable to meet with my accompanist to record the performance. Am I still able to enter?
A) We understand the challenges social distancing is creating for performing opportunities. We would be happy to accept instrumental entries that use recorded accompaniment, or those instrumental entries without accompaniment.
Q) My student does not have a YouTube channel. Can the performance be uploaded to my YouTube account?
A) The performance video can be hosted on any YouTube account, as long as it is marked as “unlisted” and the link made available on the entry form, and the 'make for kids content' be disabled.
Q) If my student participates in this online music festival, does that qualify them for awards or advancement to provincial competition?
A) The CFMTA E-Festival program is a separate offering from any local, provincial or national music festival offering.
Q) How and when can we enter?
A) The online entry form available on the CFMTA E-Festival Website (https://www.cfmta.org/en/e-festival/ ) is the only way to submit an entry for the CFMTA Canada Music Week E-Festival. EFestival opens November 10, 2021 and closes November 21, 2021. Submissions will not be accepted outside these dates.
Q) How and when do we pay for the entry?
A) Your payment is made when you submit the online entry form via PayPal
Q) Do you accept duets/duos/trios?
A) Yes! We would love to see any ensemble playing including multiple student performers, teacher/student, parent/student, accompanists, etc. as long as proper and safe COVID-19 protocols are being followed.
Q) Can I submit an own composition?
A) Yes, we highly encourage this. The video recording will have to be a performance of the work.
Q) Can I submit more than one song or performance?
A) You are welcome to submit more than one song or performance.
Q) Can I submit a Song Cycle/Concert Group/Multiple Songs in one entry?
A) Please keep separate pieces as separate entries so that adjudicators can be compensated accordingly for their time. Each song or performance must be a separate entry form and fee.
Q) Can I submit a video of a piece I've recorded in the past?
A) The spirit of the e-festival is to learn a piece and to create a new video for this festival specifically. We also request that the video be published as unlisted without any prior comments or views on YouTube.
