The CFMTA National Essay Competition was started by former CFMTA President Dr. Lorna Wanzel. The competition originated in 2013 and provides an opportunity for creative students with good ideas and capable of in depth research, to stand out and be rewarded for their writing skills. The topic chosen must be related to music teaching, pedagogy or performance practice and is open to all Canadian residents currently attending university and studying at the doctorate or master degree graduate levels.
The Dr. Lorna Wanzel prizes include one Doctorate student First place Prize of $3,000 and one Master’s student First place Prize of $2000. Winners and Runners up for each category will also have their essays published in the Canadian Music Teacher magazine and on the CFMTA website.
